The News:

Divac told the Lakers his back was not completely healed and he didn't wanted to play like this, so making use of a $2 million dollars clause included in the original deal, the Lakers bought out Divac's second year of contract which was worth $5.4 million.

Divac, who was originally drafted by the Lakers in 1989, could play only 15 games last season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds. But he leaves behind a 16-year career where he averaged 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists, was one of the first international players to have NBA impact and is one of only 3 players in NBA history (together with Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon) to get 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists and 1,500 blocked shots. You can review.

In the middle of a rebuilding season and with a roster of young players the Lakers will miss Divac's leadership.

He will still work for the team as a scout in Europe.
