April 22 - New Orleans Arena, New Orleans. Things are back to normal as Kobe and Pau led the Lakers to a 100-86 victory at New Orleans. This way L.A. took a 2-1 in best-of-seven, first-round playoff series.

The Lakers have a lot of scoring options but their primary scoring threats, the one-two punch that led them to the previous two championships is Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Despite the win in game 2, they combined for just 19 points. This time Kobe had 30 and Pau got rid of two of his worst games as a Lakers to contribute 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Lakers knew things were going their way when early in the fourth, with their lead reduced to 5 points, Gasol got the ball in the corner, took a three pointer and made it. Chris Paul made a free-throw, Steve Blake answered with another three and Pau scored the next four points. Emotionally the game was over and the Hornets never got close again.

Andrew Bynum who is being a big factor in the series, added 14 points and 11 rebounds and gave the Lakers a big scare when he went down awkwardly and stayed in the floor holding his right knee. He had to be assisted but then returned to the game and with the game under control stayed in the bench form most of the fourth quarter.

Chris Paul had 22 points, and 8 assists but the Lakers did a good job of denying him the ball and his team, after falling behind midway through the first quarter never really threatened the Lakers.

The Quotes

Phil Jackson (LAL Coach): "It's just one game. We're not going to make a mountain out of this. We want to maintain our composure."

...and about Pau Gasol..."He is just too good a basketball player. He can shoot, he can handle the ball, he can do a lot of things. It's just a matter of him finding a comfort zone out there, I didn't expect him to find it out on the 3-point line, but we are not surprised when he makes those shots.”

Pau Gasol (Lakers): about his 3-pointer...“I was open, so I shot it. It was a good shot.”

Chris Paul (Hornets): “I can't let them do that (keep the ball away from him). I've got to get my shots. I've got to be more aggressive and not allow them to take me out.”
