Apr 24 - San Antonio. --- With a 102-91 victory over the Lakers, the Spurs took a 2-0 lead in their first round playoffs series.

Tony Parker had 28 points and seven assists, Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard had 16 points each, Manu Ginobili added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in 19 minutes and the Spurs showed that they are --despite the final outcome of this series-- the better team, they know what kind of basketball they play, they know what's the right play every time, they are have clutch players (Ginobili) and they know how to defend.

The only thing slowing them down right now is the fact that Parker and Ginobili are returning from injuries and are not 100%. On the other hand the Lakers are an experiment that's about to fail and if they still have some hope it's based on the quality of their frontcourt of Gasol an Howard and not much more.

Without Kobe Bryant the Lakers were unable to make good use of the ball in the key moments of the game while the Spurs had Ginobili who led them in runs of 13-4 and 10-3 to close the first and second quarters and keep the Lakers at distance and Tony Parker who scored 24 of his 28 points in the second half.

Dwight Howard started strong and active but by middle of the second quarter the Spurs had him under control defending him with Bonner and Duncan, in the absence of other scoring threats by the Lakers.

The Quotes

Mike D'Antoni (LAL Coach): "They are just much more efficient than we are. They are playing better than we are right now."

Dwight Howard (Lakers):"It is frustrating (the defensive pressure), I just have to trust my teammates to make shots. On whatever they do defensively, I have to be aware of my arms and try not to get tangled up.

Pau Gasol (Lakers): "I didn't get into a good rhythm out there. This first half was better, but in the second half, I struggled with my shot. I can't be short on my shots; fatigue kicked in a little bit and I'm fighting through some stuff myself physically. But at this point, we're in fight mode; we'll fight through whatever is on the table. Try to stay alive in this series and fight for our lives.

Manu Ginobili (Spurs): "[Bonner] was a key player for us today, he was very active defensively. Of course he's giving Dwight a big advantage in size, strength and quickness, and I could keep going. But he did a great job getting around him, fronting him from behind."
